Quick answer

Vocational rehabilitation (VR) assessments support decisions about eligibility, the employment outcome, and necessary services. Completing a test does not by itself establish that the assessment is adequate for every decision. The relevant question is whether the information addresses the decision and your individual circumstances.

What to do

  1. Ask which decision the assessment is intended to inform.

  2. Identify the records already available and the specific information still missing.

  3. Review the report’s methods, conditions, accommodations, conclusions, and limits.

  4. Distinguish an actual finding from an assumption or a question the assessment did not examine.

  5. Request a focused explanation, correction, or additional assessment tied to the unresolved question.

Limits and deadlines

34 CFR 361.45(f) favors existing current information where appropriate and requires comprehensive assessment when additional data are necessary. It does not require every possible test.

A preferred job title alone does not establish that a particular training program is necessary. Assessment findings must be considered with the other individualized evidence.
