Quick answer

California’s individualized plan for employment (IPE) rules provide for an annual review and necessary substantive amendments. Identify the exact employment-goal, service, or provider change you seek, with the evidence supporting it.

What to do

  1. Start from the latest signed IPE, keeping the original unchanged.

  2. Describe the existing term and proposed replacement in plain language.

  3. Connect the change to the work outcome and relevant individualized information.

  4. Ask for a meeting or written decision and the information needed to resolve any disagreement.

  5. After agreement, obtain the signed amendment and confirm next implementation steps.

Limits and deadlines

Under 9 CCR 7130(a)(7), an amendment does not take effect until the required agreement and signatures. A consumer’s submitted proposal alone does not amend the plan.

Annual review does not prevent a necessary amendment between reviews. A disputed denial may trigger separate appeal timing; see the California review guide.
